I Oprahed, and Other Adventures of a Woman of a Certain Age adresses the growing up Catholic issues that lead recovering Catholics into middle age. CAtholicism was the defining factor in my life until a certain age.
“Kelley writes with a mischievous wit and an eye for every delectable detail,” AC/DC lead singer Brian Johnson says. “Her storytelling is liquid laughter – bloody funny, yet poignancy abounds.”

The result is I OPRAHED, a collection of loosely linked essays that feature her trademark hilarity and empathy.

Hi T from the L to the R, sorry for the really tardy reply. The site's been pretty fallow for a while in deference to Real Life Events. If you're still interested in writing for the site, please get in touch with us at editor@recoveringcatholicgirls.com. Your creative wit would be an asset.

Either way, thanks for stopping by and sharing your comments!

Hey Sandra, glad you found the site. I think folks here have a mix of beliefs and philosophies but tend to share the experience of the Catholic wallop: "WTF was that indoctrination all about?" Colorful baggage, sometimes heavy. On this site, we have fun putting cartoon stickers on it.

Just found this site today. I started using the term "recovering" a few years ago when I heard it from a doctor at the hospital where I worked. It struck me as so appropriate that I don't why I didn't think of it before. I was surprised to hear the term mentioned on public radio today and started looking for some connections online. I have had 12 years of Catholic education more like brainwashing that didn't work. There is no logic in the RC Church and I don't think the Bible makes any sense at all. There is something seriously wrong with the thought process in the Church (and always was), and they don't practice what they preach. I can tell you what the rules are and the reasoning behind of a lot of Catholic rhetoric, but I do not believe a single word. My conscience is my guide. I had a tough time in high school. The priest who taught us religion in my junior year stopped letting me ask questions after the first 3 or 4. My mother was a devout believer to the end, but was concerned about some kind of conspiracy in the church. I didn't fully understand what she was trying to say so we just agreed to not agree.
I think the Roman Catholic Church has been responsible for a lot of heartache, and they should clean house before they try to teach anyone anything. I could go on for days, but I should stop now before this gets anymore hostile. Thanks for this opportunity. It felt to get this in writing. Too bad no one who should be reading it is actually reading it. Sincerely Linda G
